365%

iSophia’s Company of the Year 2003. Read this week’s feature article and interview. If we’re right about Marc Andreessen’s 2nd billion dollar idea, six bucks is still a reasonable price.

Taser International

TASR

87.19

1.01.2003

4.14

2,106%

Sell, if you’re in a position to take profits. Don’t buy high. With a market cap of under $300 million, the share price of this company is extremely vulnerable. (as evidenced by its extreme low/high). Institutional investment decreased significantly on 12.22.03. If this stock continues to belie gravity and reason, forget that we said anything.

Bennett Environmental

BEL

21.18

1.15.2003

6.99

303%

Still a growing company with more business than it can keep up with. Check out the web-site at www.bennettenv.com. In December 2003, Bennett Environmental was added to the S&P/TSX index. Money Central considers it to be undervalued compared to growth. Since it’s hitting 52-week highs, there might be a better buying opportunity for the patient investor. On the other hand, if institutional investment kicks in, the price could pop.

Genentech*

DNA*

94.63

2.01.2003

37.81

250%

Genentech is the leader in gene-based cancer drugs. Share price over the last three years has fluctuated drastically, providing multiple buy/sell opportunities and reliable profit-taking strategies for day-traders. If you’re in a profit position, it’s not unreasonable to take your gains. Before buying, look into what’s coming down the FDA pipeline. Approvals tend to give share price a boost. Problems sink it faster than the Titanic, offering a great buying opportunity into this respected company.

Goldcorp**

GG

15.79

3.01.2003

11.25

40.36%

This company has the lowest production costs of gold per ounce of all of the mines, and leads the sector in innovative R&D. If you’re looking to leverage yourself against inflation, adding GG to your portfolio is not a bad call. Patience might yield a slightly better buy-in price. A spike in gold prices should positively affect the share price. Check out iSophia’s recent article in archived ezine #40. Institutional investors bought in big-time on 12.22.2003.

Overstock

OSTK

20.90

4.1.2003

10.50

99%

Competitor to Amazon.com. Advertising this season may have paid off for Overstock, as it did last year’s 4Q. This is a "try it before you buy it" recommendation. Prices are competitive with Amazon, but is Overstock’s service? Stock popped last year after 4Q results.

LeapFrog

LF

27.21

5.15.2003

25.95

4.8%

Educational toys. Missed 3Q 2003 earnings, but has increased sales and earnings guidance for 4Q 2003. If you like the product, this could be a buying opportunity, especially if the 4Q numbers come in as strong as the company anticipates.

Companies featured July 2003 through December 2003. (During the last half of the year, iSophia focused on companies with longer term growth potential. About half of these stocks are trading at a value compared to others in their sector. Others are hitting their highs, but. as leaders, should have room to grow.)
