Allergan**

Makes Botox (anti-wrinkle treatment) and Restasis (dry eye disease treatment).

3Q earnings were up 21% on increased sales of core products, including Botox. Beat earnings by three cents a share. Recent lawsuit against Allergan and Arnold Klein, M.D. brought on by a patient using Botox to treat migraines was dismissed by a judge, after the jury ruled in favor of Allergan.

Inamed Aesthetics

Makes breast implants, obesity intervention products and facial fillers, like collagen and other dermal fillers.

CEO’s contract was just renewed for 5 years, citing "excellent company performance." 3Q earnings rose 34% on strong sales of obesity products. The company saw a decline in skin care product revenue, on competition from "a competing hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler (Restalyne, marketed by Medicis). Hylaform (Inamed) and Restalyne (Medicis) were awarded Allure Magazine’s Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award… The FDA is also reviewing a PMA for Inamed’s silicone gel breast implants. Additional info was provided to the FDA on 8.31.04. The FDA continued the ban on silicone breast implants in January 2004, for all women except those with complications from saline and/or breast cancer patients.

Lifecell

Makes various surgical and reconstructive products, including AlloDerm, Cymetra (a version of Alloderm) and distributes cryo-preserved allograft skin.

3Q 2004 revenues were up 48%, to $15.6 million from $10.5 million one year prior. Operating margins also improved, to 12% from 6% one year ago. Cash on hand was $24 million, up from $18.5 million last December. The best seller is AlloDerm Regenerative Tissue for repairing hernias.

Medicis**

Holds the US and Canadian rights to market, distribute and commercialize the dermal filler product lines for Restalyne. Restalyne is a collagen competitor that has been in use in Europe since 1996, with the added benefit that Restalyne is a non-animal acid that doesn’t require patient sensitivity testing prior to administration.

40% net revenue growth in 1Q fiscal 2005, to $88.8 million from $63.3 million. Revenues increased due to Restylane and Dynacin sales. Hylaform (Inamed) and Restalyne (Medicis) were awarded Allure Magazine’s Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award… Board authorized $150 million repurchase of company common stock in August 2004. Mentor Corporation**

Breast implants, brachytherapy seeds (treatment of prostate cancer), prosthetic implants for erectile dysfunction, and products treating urinary stress incontinence.

Profit rose 12% in the fiscal 2Q 2004, up to $12.5 million, from $11.2 million a year ago. Revenue rose 17%. Sales next year are predicted to grow 13%, with profit growing 19%. Mentor began its US clinical program for its hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler on 10.27.2004, and plans to file the Pre-Market Approval application with the FDA within 6 months. As Restalyne (hyaluronicacid-based dermal filler) was approved by the FDA this year, unless there are problems in the study, it is likely that Hyalite will as well. Hyalite differs from its competitors in that Mentor is seeking to use it for lip augmentation, and has included Lidocaine. The FDA is also reviewing a PMA for Mentor’s silicone gel breast implants.
